People's Theater
VOLKSTHEATER
At the Volkstheater on Arthur-Schnitzler-Platz in the 7th district you will find the so-called "bourgeois counterpart" to the Burgtheater. The Volkstheater was opened in 1889 and is one of the most important German-language theaters on the international scene.

From the very beginning, the play program of this theater was focused on the repertoire of Austrian and German authors. In this sense, the exterior of the theater is also reminiscent of the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg, which, like the Volkstheater in Vienna, was built according to the plans of Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer.
The Volkstheater's program includes international classics as well as contemporary performances, and also plays the Volkstheater in the districts as well as the Volx/Margarethen.
After a moving performance in the theater, the in-house bar is considered another attraction in the Volkstheater. The so-called "Red Bar" is a sight in itself. A theatrical springboard into Vienna's nightlife, this theater café is open every evening. Among other things, theme salons and live concerts are held here.
