Metro Cinema House
METRO CINEMA CULTURE HOUSE
Film aficionados are sure to get their money's worth at the Metrokino in Johannesgasse in downtown Vienna. This new cinema has dedicated itself entirely to the high art of cinema.
Namely, you get to see unique retrospectives and tributes in this listed cinema hall from 1893. But also interesting temporary exhibitions are shown in this historic house of culture, which was converted into a theater in 1924.

Today, however, the Metrokino is returning to its roots and presenting itself as a unique movie theater. With its red upholstered seating and cozy wooden panelling, the cinema hall is considered one of the most beautiful in Vienna.
The exhibitions, which can be seen on the two floors above the cinema, also revolve around the theme. Display collections all about film and the history of cinema, provide a comprehensive complement to the fimshows and retrospectives on display. The main source of the exhibited material goes back to the Filmarchiv Austria, which is expanding its activities here.
The subject areas around film and cinema can be experienced here in all their aspects. Discover the cultural, social and historical dimensions of the film world from a new perspective!
