Rochusmarkt

Rochusmarkt

Rochusmarkt is a typical Viennese example of "small but mighty". For despite its small size, it impresses with its high exclusivity, central location and picturesque setting. Directly opposite the Rochus Church on Landstraßer Hauptstraße, the Rochusmarkt is located on an idyllic little square with cobblestones. Around a fountain, the market stalls are housed in stylish wooden huts. On Saturdays, there are additional free-standing market tables for fresh organic goods from local farmers. Although the Rochusmarkt is one of the smallest markets in Vienna, its unique charm is captivating. Because here you notice a clear deceleration of the hectic city life. And this despite the fact that the market is very central and located directly at the U3 station Rochusgasse.

Rochusmarkt Wien

On offer are fresh food, handicrafts and gift items, as well as clothing. Particularly striking is the abundant supply of fresh flowers. This also contributes to the special charm of the Rochusmarkt. But after shopping, depending on the time of day, there are many other pleasures to be had. For example, you can enjoy a hearty breakfast in the market pub Arrigo. Or should it be just a small roll at the famous and unpronounceably(-ably,) good Trzesniewski? At later hours, the wine bar is an insider tip. Because here you can get delicious antipasti and other delicacies to go with the wine. But next to it is also the well-known scene bar "Rochus". Here you get cocktails as well as international and Viennese cuisine artfully served. The shopping mile around the Rochusmarkt, houses many more boutiques and exquisite stores. Thus, the whole area invites you to an extensive stroll!

The history of the Rochus Market

The culinary oasis of Rochusmarkt goes back a long way in history. For already in the 12th century the area represented an important trading point. In the 18th century, the market was known as "Augustinermakrt" and was for a long time a pure flower market. Remnants of this can still be seen today in the rich array of flowers on offer. But it was not until 1988 that the Rochusmarkt took on its present form. And that was because it was redesigned at that time according to a uniform concept.
