Hermesvilla

Hermesvilla is located in the Lainzer Tiergarten and today operates as a museum. The late-Romantic villa is surrounded by the former imperial hunting grounds, and a statue of Hermes in the garden gave the building its name.

Emperor Franz Joseph had the villa built between 1882 and 1886 for Empress Elisabeth, known as Sisi. Architect Carl von Hasenauer designed the residence as an elegant retreat away from the imperial court.

Artists including Gustav Klimt and Franz Matsch contributed to the decoration of the imperial private rooms. The interiors provide an insight into the personal world of the imperial couple.

Today, visitors can explore the historic rooms and learn more about the history of the villa and its former residents.

The surrounding Lainzer Tiergarten also makes the Hermesvilla an attractive destination for combining culture with a walk in nature.
