Klimt Villa in Vienna’s Hietzing district contains the last studio used by Gustav Klimt. The artist worked here during the final years of his life until his death in 1918. The original single-storey garden house was later incorporated into the villa that surrounds it today.
Visitors can explore a reconstruction of Klimt’s final Vienna studio and gain an impression of the atmosphere in which he worked.
The reception room and studio spaces have been reconstructed using historic photographs, including images by photographer Moritz Nähr.
The exhibition also explores the people who visited Klimt during this period, including clients, friends and models.
Further exhibitions address the fate of works associated with Klimt, including questions surrounding looted, lost and displaced art and the stories of collectors, victims and perpetrators.
The approximately 6,000-square-metre garden surrounding the villa is also part of the visitor experience and has been partially reconstructed according to historical sources.
