Mozarthaus Vienna is one of the city’s most important places connected with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The historic building at Domgasse 5 contains the only surviving apartment in Vienna in which Mozart actually lived.
Across several floors, the museum explores different aspects of Mozart’s life in Vienna. The exhibition “Mozart’s Vienna” introduces visitors to the composer’s personal and social life in the city during the 18th century, including his circle of friends, everyday life and the cultural environment in which he worked.
Another section is dedicated to Mozart’s music and the musical world of his time. It explores his collaborations with artists such as Lorenzo Da Ponte as well as famous works including The Marriage of Figaro, The Magic Flute and the Requiem.
The centrepiece of the museum is Mozart’s former apartment. Mozart and his family lived here from 1784 to 1787, during one of the most productive periods of his life and the years in which he composed The Marriage of Figaro.
