Museum of Military History

The Museum of Military History is located in the Arsenal in Vienna’s 3rd district. Its exhibitions explore Austrian military history from the Habsburg monarchy through the First World War and into the 20th century.

The museum focuses on the role of the Austrian armed forces in both international conflicts and domestic history, including land forces as well as Austria’s former naval history.

Military history is presented in a broader historical context, with objects and exhibitions also touching on technology, science, art and wider social developments.

The museum building itself is historically significant. Completed in the mid-19th century as part of the Arsenal complex, its architecture combines Byzantine, Moorish and Gothic-inspired elements.
