Café Hawelka

Café Hawelka is more than just a coffeehouse – it is a Viennese legend. Located on Dorotheergasse in the 1st district, its unique character was shaped over decades by Leopold and Josefine Hawelka, who became the heart and soul of this famous café.

Another important part of the Hawelka tradition is the famous Buchteln once prepared by Josefine Hawelka. These soft yeast buns filled with jam are still made according to the original recipe and are reason enough for many visitors to stop by.

The café has long attracted well-known figures from art and culture. Hans Moser, Udo Jürgens and Andy Warhol were among its famous guests, and it remains a popular meeting place for writers, artists and cabaret performers.
