Time seems to move a little differently at Café Bräunerhof in Vienna’s city centre. What may appear slightly old-fashioned at first glance is, for those who know it, a quiet retreat full of traditional Viennese charm.
The writer Thomas Bernhard was one of the café’s famous regulars and often came here to read the newspaper. To this day, Bräunerhof is known for its extensive selection of international newspapers.
Everything about the café is simple, understated and dignified. Even the waiters seem to preserve a certain old-school formality, although always with the necessary touch of Viennese humour.
In summer, guests can sit in the small pavement garden. The lunch menu reflects the café itself: straightforward, traditional and good. From breakfast to dinner, the kitchen serves down-to-earth Viennese dishes prepared with care.
At weekends, Café Bräunerhof becomes a little livelier, with live music adding to the traditional coffeehouse atmosphere.
