Strandbad Alte Donau is located in Vienna’s Donaustadt district on the city-centre side of the Old Danube, close to Donaupark. During the summer swimming season, it is a popular destination for visitors of all ages and can be reached easily by bus line 20B.
The historic bathing area opened on 1 June 1918. Its approximately 10,000-square-metre beach was created using earth fill topped with sand from the nearby Gänsehäufel.
Today, the beach stretches for around 150 metres and includes a 60-metre wooden bathing jetty. Visitors can swim directly in the Old Danube or use the sports pool, multi-purpose pool and heated children’s pool. There is also a separate slide for small children.
Outside the water, the grounds offer around 7,000 square metres of recreational space. Activities include badminton, beach volleyball, football, table tennis, fitness facilities and other ball games. Sunbathing areas provide plenty of space to relax.
Deckchairs can be rented on site, and visitors can also use the restaurant and a shop selling swimming and personal-care items.
