Sluka has been a Viennese institution since 1891, when it became an imperial and royal court supplier of confectionery. Since 2017, the traditional café and patisserie has also operated a second location on Kärntner Straße in Vienna’s city centre, distinguished by its elegant interior.
Even during the imperial era, Sluka was famous for its traditional confectionery. Soon after opening, the original Rathausplatz location became one of Vienna’s iconic cafés. Homemade cakes and pastries are still prepared fresh every day, reflecting the café’s long-standing commitment to craftsmanship and high-quality ingredients.
For generations, Sluka has been a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Guests can choose between the legendary Sluka Torte, Dobos Torte and a variety of homemade petits fours. The menu also includes savoury specialities and a selection of refined hot dishes.
The Rathausplatz location has long been a popular meeting place for Vienna’s elegant society. Its charming interior, with classic Thonet chairs, evokes the atmosphere of a refined salon in a grand palace. Famous guests have included Empress Elisabeth and Oskar Kokoschka. Today, politicians from the nearby parliament are also frequent visitors.

True to Sluka’s motto, “Preserve the old, create the new”, the Kärntner Straße location combines tradition with a more contemporary sense of grandeur. Spacious vaulted ceilings, stucco details and glazed roof elements are framed by elegant columns. Architectural elements inspired by the 1920s and sophisticated mirror installations give the café a glamorous atmosphere. A high-quality lunch menu changes weekly, while the cake display lives up to the standards of the traditional Rathausplatz location.
