Anker Clock

Discover the best attractions in Vienna and plan unforgettable experiences.

The Anker Clock is the hidden gem of Vienna’s city centre. On Hoher Markt, this extraordinary clock connects two parts of the so-called Anker-Hof. In this sense, the viewer can also identify it as a bridge.

And indeed, the Anker Clock is even in use as a bridge! Every hour is marked by a figure or a pair of figures moving across the bridge. In total, that makes 12 different appearances for 12 hours. At noon, all the figures come together in a parade, accompanied by music.

But the Anker Clock spreads a very special mood around Christmas time. Then it plays Christmas carols daily between 5 pm and 6 pm.
In this sense, the clock is a cheerful delight for young and old.

The Art Nouveau creation was designed by the imperial and royal painter Franz Matsch between 1911 and 1914.
