Butterfly House

Discover the best attractions in Vienna and plan unforgettable experiences.

Vienna’s famous Butterfly House is located in the heart of the city. Here you will find a tropical oasis of a special kind. The glazed Art Nouveau building lets you enter the enchanting world of the “messengers of the gods”. Here you experience these delicate and colourful airborne creatures up close and in their natural setting.

This is emphasised by the unique frame of the building. Here you find yourself in light-flooded rooms amid waterfalls and exotic plants, while the butterflies put on a fantastic flying spectacle.

The Butterfly House is located at the far end of the Hofburg, next to the Palm House by the Burggarten. Just 100 metres further on are the Albertina and then the State Opera. The architecture of the Butterfly House is a masterpiece of Art Nouveau. Even Emperor Franz Joseph I was able to enjoy the exotic atmosphere of the house.
