Architecture and history
The Vienna Opera House is one of the imposing magnificent buildings of the Vienna Ringstraße and is designed in the Renaissance arch style. Accordingly, the opera gives its name to the so-called Opernring.
The planning of the house goes back to the Viennese architect August von Sicardsburg. But the interior design stems from a design by Eduard van der Nüll. Other artists such as Moritz von Schwind created fresco paintings in the foyer of the opera.
The opera house was opened under Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1869 with a performance of Mozart’s Don Giovanni.
