Ronacher Theater

Discover the best attractions in Vienna and plan unforgettable experiences.

The Ronacher, alongside the Raimund Theater, is another hotspot of the Viennese musical scene. The theatre was originally built in the 19th century as an alternative to the courtly theatre for the general public. After a devastating fire, it was rebuilt in 1886 by Anton Ronacher and designed as a classical variety stage.

Until the 1930s, acrobats and magicians performed here together with cabaret artists such as Josephine Baker.

But it was only in 1987 that the musical heaven opened over the Ronacher. And that after the takeover by the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien. The first great success was the audience hit “Cats”.

Today the Ronacher appears with its traditional facade in a technically renewed form. Since the stage has all kinds of the most modern technologies, it is a box-office hit for urban city theatre.
