Hofburg

The Hofburg in Vienna is one of the largest and most beautiful palace complexes in the world. Construction of the magnificent building began as early as the 13th century. Until 1918, the Hofburg was the residence and government centre of the Habsburg emperors. Today, visitors can admire numerous museums within it (including the Albertina), the National Library and, in the Michaelertrakt of the Hofburg, the Spanish Riding School. The Hofburg is also the seat of the Austrian Federal President.

Vienna City Hall

The Vienna City Hall was built from 1872 to 1883. It is by far the most important non-clerical building in Vienna in the Neo-Gothic style. The height of the tower amounts to a fabulous 97.9 m. Added to this is the „Iron Rathausmann“, which adorns the tower of the Vienna City Hall. The Vienna City Hall is the official seat of the Mayor. It also serves as the meeting place of the City Senate/Provincial Government and the City Council/Provincial Parliament.

UNO City

The Vienna International Centre was built from 1973 to 1979 by the Republic of Austria and the City of Vienna. The well-known building serves as an office headquarters centre for international organisations. It is the seat of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV) and other international organisations. Austria rents the building to the United Nations for a symbolic ground rent.

Spanish Riding School

The Spanish Riding School is one of the highest cultural treasures of the federal capital. The name refers to the spirited ancestors of today’s Lipizzaners. Over the course of the year, thousands upon thousands of visitors attend the breathtaking performances in the historic Baroque hall in Vienna’s city centre. You should not miss the performances of the noble horses.

Palace of Justice

The history-steeped Palace of Justice is over 130 years old. The Palace of Justice houses the seat of the Supreme Court, as well as the Higher Regional Court of Vienna and the Regional Court for Civil Law Matters of Vienna. The Procurator General’s Office and the Senior Public Prosecutor’s Office of Vienna are also found here. In the well-known Justice Café on the top floor, visitors get a marvellous view over Vienna.

Parliament and Palais Epstein

The parliament on the Vienna Ringstraße is one of the most important buildings in the capital, Vienna. It is classified as Historicism. The well-known architect Theophil Hansen designed it in the style of Greek antiquity. Right next to the parliament, the visitor finds the Palais Epstein. Vienna State Opera

Anyone who visits the metropolis of Vienna should have seen the Vienna Opera. Because the grand house on the Ring is undisputedly one of the most important opera houses in the world. The opera was built as early as 1869. In the Second World War the building was destroyed, but rebuilt as early as 1955. Since then, the opera has offered its visitors exciting music theatre at the very highest level.

University of Vienna

The University of Vienna is the best-known and largest university building in Austria. Around 90,000 students and roughly 9,800 employees work at the renowned university. The University of Vienna was founded in 1365. This makes it the oldest university in today’s German-speaking world and the third-oldest in Central Europe. Its range currently comprises 178 degree programmes.
